BLENNZ Wellington – Resource Teacher Vision (RTV)
Permanent full-time Position (1SU)
Starting Term 1 2026, or earlier by negotiation
Are you passionate about inclusive education and making a meaningful difference in the lives of ākonga who are blind, deafblind or have low vision?
BLENNZ Wellington is looking for a dynamic, innovative and experienced teacher with current Teacher Registration and up-to-date knowledge of the NZ Curriculum and / or Te Whāriki to support the education of ākonga with vision impairments, aged from birth to 21 years.
About the Role
As an RTV, you will work collaboratively with schools, whānau, and transdisciplinary teams to ensure that ākonga with vision impairments have equitable access to the curriculum and school life. Your role will include:
- Assessing and supporting the educational needs of blind, deafblind and low vision ākonga.
- Supporting teacher development in working with vision-impaired ākonga as inclusive practice.
- Supporting access to adaptive technologies and learning resources, with openness to learning and professional development in this area.
- Working successfully as part of a team is a key component of this itinerant position.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from qualified teachers who have:
- Experience in working with ākonga with vision impairments (desirable, but not essential)
- Demonstrated ability to develop excellent working relationships with parents, family/whānau and educators.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- A commitment to inclusive education and equity.
- Willingness to undertake specialist post graduate training in vision education.

BLENNZ Homai Campus – Youth Worker

Fixed Term until 18 December 2026. BLENNZ Homai Campus, Manurewa.
Term time only, rostered 8-hour shifts between 7:45 AM and 10:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
Are you passionate about empowering rangatahi to reach their full potential?
Join BLENNZ in a hands-on Youth Worker role supporting blind, low vision, and deafblind ākonga (students) aged 13–21. You'll be part of a vibrant residential and educational environment where rangatahi live onsite and participate in a transition programme focused on developing confidence, independence, and life skills for their future.
Working alongside a dedicated team, you’ll help design and deliver meaningful programmes that reflect the unique goals of each ākonga and their whānau.
You’ll build strong, respectful relationships with rangatahi, creating a safe and inclusive space that supports learning, wellbeing, and personal growth. Your calm presence and strengths-based approach will help mentor and inspire young people as they prepare for life beyond school.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Connects easily with rangatahi and builds trust while maintaining professional boundaries
- Brings energy, reliability, and initiative — you notice what’s needed and step in with care and confidence
Communicates clearly, both verbally and in writing
Works well in a team environment across residential and educational settings - Is culturally responsive and committed to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in everyday practice, with experience engaging Māori and Pasifika communities
- Has solid computer skills, including familiarity with Word, Excel, and Microsoft Teams
- Brings experience in youth work or supporting young people (experience with blind, low vision, or disabled youth is a bonus, but not essential)
- Is comfortable pitching in with occasional domestic responsibilities as part of the shared care environment
- Can adapt to challenges with maturity, common sense, and a problem-solving mindset

BLENNZ Christchurch – Administrator
16 hours per week, term time only
Additional hours may be negotiated in future
To commence as soon as possible. The position will be based at the Christchurch Visual Resource Centre, Burnside, Christchurch. The days and hours per day to be discussed, additional hours may be negotiated in the future (to a maximum of 20 hours per week).
The Blind and Low Vision Education Network New Zealand (BLENNZ) is a special character school that provides educational services to learners who are blind, deafblind or low vision throughout New Zealand. BLENNZ is committed to being a culturally responsive and Te Tiriti honouring school.
We are seeking a skilled Administrator to support our Christchurch Team.
The successful applicant will have:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computing skills
- Excellent organisation, problem solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience communicating with whānau
- Strong interpersonal skills
Only applicants who are legally entitled to work in New Zealand will be considered. You must also be safety checked (police vet) prior to employment being confirmed.
The position is covered by the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement. The position is paid at Administration Grade 4.
