Our Manawa Tamariki group got together for the first time with a Teddy Bears Picnic. This is our third Expanded Core Curriculum Group. The focus was on developing Social-, Communication- and Everyday Living skills.

Ākonga introduced themselves and their teddies. Using Unifix Cubes, they measured their teddies and created a graph to discover whose bear was the tallest.

Ākonga measured ingredients - mixing, stirring and whisking the batter to make and decorate cupcakes. Through tuakana teina, less confident ākonga were supported by those more confident. They played pass-the-parcel and used their motor skills to climb the monkey bars and to reach the top of the rocket ship. They said that they liked making new friends and learning to bake.

Two girls are sitting at a round table with an adult. One girl is pouring milk into a yellow measuring cup which is being held by the adult. The other girl looks on. There is a kitchen bench in the background.
