An important part of this is teaching how 'changes in light' can change what they see. For example, steps that are clearly visible in one lighting condition may appear flat in another. Glare is light that can cause both discomfort and reduced vision, either directly or through reflections off surfaces. To help reduce this effect, a glare assessment using a NoIR kit, which contains sunglasses in various colours and shades, may be useful.

The aim is to find the combination that maximises an individual's ability to interpret what they see by cutting glare, and outcomes indicate that wearing NoIRs can make a difference.
